Minnesota nice meets Yooper honesty.
Hi. I’m Colleen.
I’m really glad you’re here.
I’m Colleen McDonald, and I have a habit of looking for the little bit of wisdom hiding in life’s messier moments—the conversations, choices, and relationships that shape who we become.
For years, people have found their way to me when they needed advice, a different perspective, or simply someone willing to help them untangle the knot. Those conversations have happened across kitchen tables, outside office doors, during long phone calls, and sometimes way past bedtime.
Eventually, I realized the most useful lessons underneath those conversations should not disappear when the conversation ends.
Colleen Honestly™ is where I turn those lasting lessons into honest stories, thoughtful questions, and practical tools you can use in your own life.
Professionally, I bring over two decades of experience helping people navigate meaningful and complicated moments. My work has included people leadership, employee relations, workplace accessibility, organizational change, conflict, trust, and the everyday decisions that shape culture. I’m SPHR-certified, but the most important lessons I’ve learned have never belonged to a title or credential alone. They came from paying attention to what helps people feel heard, see clearly, and move forward.
Personally, I know what it is like to navigate difficult things and wish someone steady were standing beside you. That is part of why this work matters so much to me. Doing hard things together can lighten the load.
But I am not here to carry anyone forever. I want to stand beside people long enough to help them find their footing, offer tools that make the next step a little easier, and leave them more capable of moving forward on their own.

Keep Me PostedKnow someone who might need this?
Send them a letter, a tool, or this page. No sales pitch required. Sometimes the kindest thing we can say is, “This made me think of you.”
I usually start with questions. What happened? What do you know? What are you assuming? What do you need? What are you afraid might happen? Then we make a plan.
